Soundcall offers an optional Damage & Theft Cover, in partnership with Tulip, on most of the equipment we hire out. Accidental damage, breakdown, theft by break-in or by mugging: it pays up to 90% of the claim, so you only pay 10%, with a minimum of €10. Without the Cover, you pay for everything. It costs €7.90 to €19.90 for 24 h depending on the value of the equipment, and the exact price is shown before you pay. You simply tick it when booking, on a hire that starts at €39 for 24 h for one speaker, collected free of charge by appointment from our depot in Saint-Cloud (92210).

Value of the covered equipment (excl. VAT)

Equipment worth €1,000 to €3,000 excl. VAT: €10.90 for 24 h.

One price per order, based on the equipment, with the exact price shown before you pay.

Without the Cover, damage costs you the full repair, the cost of shipping to the repairer and a downtime excess of €25 to €150 per item (depending on its hire price), payable even if the repair only takes a few days. With the Cover, this downtime excess is waived: you only pay the 10% and the shipping costs.

What the Cover includes

Damage, oxidation, breakdown, theft
  • Accidental damage that stops the equipment from working.
  • Accidental oxidation.
  • Mechanical, electronic or electromechanical breakdown.
  • Damage beyond repair, on presentation of a certificate stating that it cannot be repaired.
  • Theft by break-in, from a car, a garage or a home.
  • Theft by mugging.

What it does not cover

Negligence, wear, accessories
  • Theft through negligence, meaning equipment left unattended or visible in an unlocked car.
  • Normal wear and tear.
  • Cosmetic damage, such as scratches and stains, that does not stop the equipment from working.
  • Deliberate damage.
  • Loose accessories: cables, stands, covers, cartridges.

What you still pay

A 10% contribution, and that is all

When a claim is accepted, you pay an excess of 10% of the repair cost for damage, with a minimum of €10, or 10% of the equipment's value for theft. The rest is covered. There is no paperwork to put together and no partner to chase: Soundcall handles it.

Example repairCoveredYou pay
€200 repair90%€20
€400 repair90%€40
€900 repair90%€90

These three lines are worked examples, not prices: they only illustrate the 10% rule. The price of the Cover itself depends on the equipment booked and the rental duration, and it is shown when you book, before you pay. Depreciation applies from the 25th month of the equipment's age, capped at 50%.

How to make a claim

Theft within 2 days, damage within 5 days

Two scenarios, short deadlines, simple documents.

If something is stolen

within 2 days
  1. Report it to the police. The report can be made online in about twenty minutes, and the police cannot refuse it: you were responsible for the equipment at the time, so the report has to come from you.
  2. Tell Soundcall within 2 days. A call or a message is enough to open the claim, even if the police report is not finalised yet.
  3. Send us the full police report. The complete document, not just the receipt, listing the stolen equipment.

If something is damaged

within 5 days
  1. Tell Soundcall within 5 days. Just tell us what happened, no need to wait until you have a solution.
  2. Send three photos of the equipment. One overall shot and two close-ups of the damaged part are enough in most cases.
  3. Leave the rest to us. If the equipment cannot be repaired, the repairer issues a certificate to say so, and we take care of requesting it.

After that, there is nothing more for you to do. Soundcall files the claim with Tulip, sends the documents and follows it through to the end. The one rule to remember: if the deadline is missed or the requested documents are missing, the Cover cannot apply and you pay for the claim yourself. Not sure what to do? Why take the Cover when there is already a card hold

The card hold does not protect you

The card hold is not protection. It is a pre-authorisation on your card taken before the equipment leaves, and it protects the rental company, not you.

Its only purpose is to secure Soundcall if the equipment comes back broken, incomplete or not at all. The rental agreement makes you responsible for the equipment from pickup until return. In other words, if a speaker falls off its stand at the end of the night, if a drink is spilt over the faders of a DJ controller, or if a car boot is forced open overnight, the whole bill is yours.

That is where it hurts: replacing a complete system runs into thousands of euros, and a single evening is enough. The card hold repairs nothing and compensates no one, it simply records that you owe the amount.

The Damage & Theft Cover turns this around. Taken out when you book, with our partner Tulip, it pays up to 90% of the claim and brings your contribution down to 10%, with a minimum of €10. An accident that could have cost several thousand euros becomes a reasonable contribution.

It does not replace the card hold: thecard hold is taken in every case. The Cover protects exactly what the card hold does not, namely you. The full conditions are set out in article 9 bis of our terms and conditions of hire.

In practice, the question mostly comes up for three kinds of hire. Equipment carried on foot or by car all night, typically a battery-powered speaker moved from the garden to the living room and then to the car boot, where the risk of a drop is real. Equipment left in a vehicle between two venues, where break-in becomes the issue. And high-value set-ups, with a DJ controller and speakers together, where a single incident far exceeds the cost of the option. On the other hand, a morning pickup and a return the next day from a closed venue is a low risk, and the Cover is a matter of choice. What should decide is the amount you would be willing to pay out of your own pocket, not the price of the option.

Two common examples of covered equipment: the SOUNDBOKS 4, carried around and set on the floor all evening, and the Deejay Club pack, which combines a DJ controller and speakers in a single hire.

Your questions about the Damage & Theft Cover

Compulsory or not, covered equipment, deadlines, card hold

Is the Cover compulsory?

No, it is entirely optional. You choose it when you book, before the equipment leaves, and its price is shown at that point. You can hire without it: the card hold then applies on its own.

Which equipment can I cover?

Most of the equipment in our catalogue: speakers, DJ controllers, lighting, complete packs. A few items are excluded, and this is stated on their product page. Loose accessories, such as cables, stands, covers and cartridges, are never covered.

What happens if I decline the Cover?

The hire goes ahead as normal, but if there is damage or theft, you pay 100% of the claim, under the conditions set out in our terms and conditions of hire.

Does the Cover replace the card hold?

No. The card hold is taken in every case, with or without the Cover. The two work together: the card hold secures Soundcall, the Cover protects you. With the Cover, the card hold is smaller.

Am I not already covered by my home policy or my bank card?

Rarely. Home contents policies, personal liability cover and the protection that comes with bank cards almost always exclude goods that are hired, borrowed or lent to you, and their excesses are high. Check with your provider before declining the Cover.

What if the equipment is more than two years old?

Depreciation applies from the 25th month of the equipment's age, capped at 50%. The Cover still applies: the payout is simply based on the value of the equipment on the date of the claim.

How long does it take to be reimbursed?

It depends on how long Tulip takes to process the claim. What speeds it up: reporting quickly, within 2 days for theft and within 5 days for damage, and providing complete documents from the start. Soundcall files and follows the claim, so you have nothing to handle directly with the partner.

Can I take out the Cover after collecting the equipment?

No. It can only be taken out before the equipment leaves, when you book. Once the equipment has left, the Cover can no longer be added, not even on the same day.
